Ohio One of Six States to Receive Gold Shovel Award

Area Development recognizes Ohio for its success in growing the state’s economy and creating good-paying jobs with Gold Shovel award.

Competition among states is tough when it comes to growing the economy. Ohio keeps rising to the top. In June, Area Development awarded its annual Gold and Silver Shovel awards to Ohio. The state is one of five receiving the coveted Gold Shovel recognition for high-impact economic development and record results achieved.

Assessing finalists, Area Development identified business-friendly policies in Ohio attracting high-value investment projects, new job creation, and impressive growth in the Food Processing, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics and Distribution, manufacturing, and back office support sectors as accomplishments moving Ohio to the top of the list.

High-impact economic development results in Ohio helping the state edge out competitors include steady growth in the Automotive industry, citing recent investments by Fuyao Glass America, ADVICS Manufacturing, and the production of more than 1.5 million cars and trucks in 2015. Successful job creation resulting from Vadata and Amazon.com project wins helped Ohio rank among the top four states for successful economic development wins in 2015, committing to millions of dollars in capital investments, and adding thousands of new jobs.
