President Obama Highlights Ohio at SelectUSA Investment Summit

During SelectUSA, President Obama praises the relationship initiated at the 2015 event between Ohio and Italy-based manufacturer Sofidel Group, leading to the company’s investment in Ohio.

SelectUSA Investment Summit is the United State’s highest profile event to promote job-creating foreign investment. The 2015 SelectUSA Summit served as a catalyst for the relationship allowing Columbus 2020 to elevate the Central Ohio region’s operational advantages for international companies. President Obama recaps details of Sofidel's investement at the 2015 SelectUSA event.

“The U.S. is the most important market in the tissue paper industry, so selecting an ideal facility location was critical to our continued growth in American markets,” said Luigi Lazzareschi, chief executive officer, Sofidel Group. “Assistance from SelectUSA, JobsOhio, Columbus 2020 and the Pickaway Progress Partnership was critical in our evaluation of communities and selection of Circleville for our new plant.”

In the weeks following the 2015 event, Columbus 2020 was accompanied by the Pickaway Progress Partnership during a visit to the Sofidel facility in Italy, which is where company leaders first learned of the Circleville site. Key assets to Central Ohio meeting Sofidel’s production and logistics needs include: nearby and abundant water; low-cost, sustainable energy; and close access to multi-modal transport including rail, double-decker container capabilities, and air freight.

The regional attraction efforts leveraged several public and private collaborators, including JobsOhio, Columbus 2020, American Electric Power, Columbia Gas of Ohio, Norfolk Southern, the Ohio Rail Development Commission, the Ohio Department of Transportation Jobs & Commerce division, Pickaway Progress Partnership and many private businesses and community officials.

With companies from 47 countries, nine key industries, and the 7th largest population in the U.S.., Ohio is the right location for international businesses
